Why Yoga Alone Isn’t Enough After 50

Yoga is an excellent practice for mobility, flexibility, breath, core control, and body awareness—but it doesn’t fully develop all muscle groups or provide the resistance intensity needed for optimal muscle hypertrophy (growth) balanced strength, or optimal body composition. And- it doesn’t load the bones enough to prevent age-related decline.

We need high-intensity training, heavy lifting which activates type II muscle fibers (those most at risk of atrophy with age) and short, sharp workouts to build strength, maintain bone density (through impact + resistance) to stimulate osteoblast activity, and boost metabolism. The focus is on building up to lifting heavier weights, performing fewer reps and load the bones with Sprint Interval Training, plyometrics and other HIIT exercises.
